$12.8 trillion and growing

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

The US Government and Federal Reserve have spent, lent, and committed $12.8 trillion since last year. This amount is almost as much as the entire US GDP last year.

Expect this mind boggling number to grow by leaps and bounds over the coming year, unless we the people put a stop to this fiscal insanity.

CEO in Chief

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Do we truly comprehend the monumental nature of Obama’s announcement regarding GM & Chrysler yesterday? Our president effectively fired the CEO of GM, commanded GM to present yet another business plan, and ordered Chrysler to initiate the process of selling out to a foreign automaker.

This is a complete contradiction of free market capitalism and a gross affront to the Constitution. Add in the fact that the US Government is running nearly $2 trillion budget deficits, sports a $11 trillion national debt, and has devalued its own currency by 30% in the last seven years; yet, it has the gall to demand a better business plan from a private corporation?

What can we do about it? First, we can protest at the Tea Party rallies. We need millions, not thousands. Our Constitution is under assault. Our economic foundation is under assault.

But more importantly, at the appropriate times, we can vote out every single politician who voted YES on the bailouts. Until we elect candidates who are unabashedly committed to limited government, a strict adherence to the Constitution, and free market capitalism, we will continue to witness these tyrannical actions. And make sure you take a look at their actual voting records. Talk is cheap. Actions always speak louder than words.

Beware Who You Sponsor

Monday, March 30th, 2009

To lend credence to individual leaders and public figures, especially those in the roles of public servants, is a natural and understandable inclination. Today this practice becomes more risky for a number of reasons. Perhaps honor and nobility are not as highly acclaimed in this age as in others. Politicians continue to say one thing and do another, making it increasingly difficult to trust their word. Not to mention their “word” is often intentionally displayed in such a way as to discourage further research into their policies and voting records. Was there a day when representation was entrusted completely without fear of betrayal? A day when a person’s word was scarcely transgressed, especially in the public spotlight? Perhaps, but perhaps not; one needs only to read Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States to learn a more accurate account of our early national leadership for reasons why not.

Sean Hannity to broadcast from Atlanta Tea Party

Monday, March 30th, 2009

On April 15, Sean Hannity will perform his popular Fox News program live from the Atlanta Tea Party. While we welcome the publicity from such a major media player, we would encourage Americans to adopt a more nonpartisan approach during the nationwide tea party rallies.

While many of Hannity’s pointed criticisms of the Obama administration’s economic policies are valid, it must also be noted that his strident, partisan approach has, at times, failed to admit the fiscal irresponsibility of Bush and Republicans in Congress.

During Bush’s eight year tenure, he and the Republican Congress, which held a majority for six years, doubled the size of the national debt. Not once did they pass a balanced budget.

In addition, the massive government bailouts of 2008 were initiated by President Bush and supported by a fair number of Republicans in Congress.

So, while the new administration pursues a course of reckless government spending, intervention, and expansion, Republican leadership bears its fair share of the blame as well.

This revolution should not be utilized as a tool to pit Republican vs. Democrat. Instead, it should welcome all those, whether Democrat, Republican, Independent, or Third Party, who wish to restore America’s constitutional foundation of limited government, sound money, and free market capitalism.

47 states face budget deficits

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Perpetual overspending, combined with rising unemployment in a deepening recession, is placing significant budgetary strains on most of the nation’s state governments.

For those states that to refuse to make the painful but necessary budget cuts, tax increases and federal bailout money will be the only other options.

Once again, we see that excessive government spending has serious consequences for the hard working taxpayer.

Thomas Jefferson quote

Monday, March 30th, 2009

“The principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale.”

President Bush doubled the national debt in eight years. According to the CBO, President Obama will double the national debt in just five years.

Enough is enough!

Whatever happened to balanced budgets?

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

1997 was the last time the Federal Government balanced its budget. This occured under President Clinton and a Republican controlled Congress.

When President Bush entered office, he actually inherited a budget surplus for the first time in decades. However, he quickly ran up huge budget deficits and doubled the national debt over eight years. During his tenure, Republicans controlled Congress for six years, while Democrats controlled Congress for two years.

Now, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projects President Obama will preside over even bigger budget deficits and double the national debt in just five years. And through at least 2010, Democrats will also control the Congress.

So,  since 1997, whether it’s the Republicans or the Democrats, they’re simply not getting the job done.  America, the buck stops with us.  Ultimately, it’s up to us to hold them accountable.
