In December of 1773, the British government gave special tax incentives to the East India Company. In effect, the British government created a monopoly in the tea market that local merchants could not compete with.
As a reaction to British legislation, the original American patriots protested the unfair treatment by dumping several crates of tea into the Boston Harbor.
In 2009, Americans are once again unsettled by the political favoritism that plagues Washington D.C. Whatever good intentions you have, per the Constitution and under the principles of self-responsibility and respect for every single American citizen, nobody in Washington D.C. has the right to take the fruits of our labor to try and solve problems that We the People did not create.
