Description

This is a group for people who believe our Congressman should have term limits.
I say, two terms of four years in the house and two terms of four years in the senate. That’s it, actions such as running for congressman for a different state after you have served your limit will not be allowed. That’s sixteen years to leave your mark, and if you don’t by then, we don’t want you anyway.
Of course, you can run for president, or get appointed to a position for the president, run for office in a state legislature or as governor(if states want to set up term limits, that is up to the states to decide).

  • Absolutely tired of career politicans. Can`t they just serve the people and get a public job after their term?

  • Wake-up Call;
    We have 47 members. We have NO PLAN!

    GOOOH has around 100,000 members.
    They are getting about 8,000 hits per day (over 650,000).
    To get 500,000 members by election times we will need to increase our membership by by at least 2,700 EVERY DAY!
    (at our present rate that will take about 1000 YEARS!)

    GOOOH has a PLAN.
    The MAIN thing on their ”platform” is TERM LIMITS - 4 years MAX.
    I think we ALL (largely) agree with it.
    If we help GOOOH it may attain 5,000,000 members by then.
    And, WE will REGAIN our Country & our Constitution.

  • I agree with the need for term limits, but I would suggest there is no need to change the length of current appointments of office for the Congress and that we should limit them all to one term only. I also think that we go about getting term limits through a Constitutional Convention. There is no need to wait for an election year in order to vote in similar minded representatives. If that was the correct path it would have happened already. In the 90s, 23 states voted to enact term limits for their representatives and the Supreme Court over turned the voice of the people. The Supreme Court stated that the correct way to enact term limits was by following Article V of the Constitution. Congress will not do it, so we must. The Democrats want to use the ”Nuclear Option” with ObamaCare, I say we give them the “Nuclear Option” by instating term limits through a Constitutional Convention. That way we take back our government, and 2010 would completely change Washington. It would drastically reduce corruption, and as Thomas Jefferson said term limitation was a way ‘‘to prevent every danger which might arise to American freedom by continuing too long in office.’’ I would also suggest that one term should apply to all federally elected officials, including the President, and maybe even our Supreme Court. If everyone has one term, then there really is no need for a lifetime appointment. So you could have Congress approving a new Justice every two years, which would result in an 18 year term for each Supreme Court Justice.

  • Hello All:

    A few days ago in the comment thread for the Vote-No-Confidence Group, there was a debate about tolerating politicians who breached the public trust/ ethos by for example having affairs, conflicts of interest etc. I have wrote a lengthy responsive argument regarding this topic.
    I would appreciate it if you visit my response here:

    and here:

    Here is the teaser -

    TO THE DEBATE - TOLERANCE OF BREACHES OF THE PUBLIC TRUST (in elected officials and Government Bureaucrats)

    The topic of this debate revolves around tolerance and intolerance of moral, ethical, legal and political trespasses by elected officials. In this story, I may sometimes refer to these collectively as ”ethos* Further, I may refer to breaches of any one of these aspects of American ethos as Breaches of the Public Trust. Broadly the four major perspectives on this issue are:

    1) Biblical Mandate - That we must permit/practice tolerance, because politicians have the same failings of average people (Let ye without sin cast the first stone);

    2) Political Reality - That politics attracts a certain element of society with a propensity to, for lack of a more secular and less offensive term, sin;

    3) Political Loyalty/alliance/allegiance/expediency - Some of these folks that ”sin” share our same political beliefs and/or party and therefore we should overlook their trespasses to achieve our political goals;

    4) Zero Tolerance - If a Politician breaches the Public Trust, their oath of office, or otherwise betrays the moral, ethical and/or legal beliefs of their constituency, the constituencies support for them should end, period.

    Before I say more, I wish to thank all of you TEA Partiers that posted on or discussed this issue with me. I appreciate your thoughtful, reasoned dialogue. It is so much more pleasant and constructive to discuss the issues fully and freely without it degenerating into personal attacks. To the extent possible, I am going to make my arguments in in favor of Zero Tolerance without attacking the other perspectives. Let whatever position that prevails, prevail upon its own merits. This, as opposed to the dismantling of its competitors, as a show of contempt for the intellectual dishonesty that has become political tradition in America these days.

    With that back drop, I am for Zero Tolerance. I do not arrive at this position with religious considerations. I come to it from a practical perspective. My position evolves from the following beliefs, thoughts, arguments and premises:

  • Everyone, if you don’t want to live under a cap and trade bill go to http://www.capandtr8tors.com
    It a site that gives you the names of the 8 republicans who voted for the bill and allows you to click on their name and send them an email as well as a count down timer of how much time they have left to change their vote, by July 2nd. So far, the bill has passed by ONE VOTE. Contact these congressmen and women and let them know how unhappy you are and that they can kiss their seat goodbye if they don’t change their votes!!!
