Get ready to pay more for your car
The Obama administration is set to announce the first-ever national emissions limit for vehicles, a change that will result in the price of a vehicle rising $1,300 by 2016. Some are hailing this as the renaissance of green technology and a cleaner planet, while others are criticizing it for its excessive federal regulation and detrimental impact on hard working consumers.
Administration officials claim the real price increase will only be $600 per vehicle, since the other $700 had already been approved. They also claim that consumers will recover this loss through cheaper gas prices, as long as gas prices follow government projections. In addition, officials claim that consumers will save more throughout the car’s lifetime despite the additional, upfront expense.
What do you think? Is this good for the environment? What could be some of the constitutional and economic ramifications?

Liberalism has at its core a great evil: it has to use force to accomplish its goals. This is a classic example. By force of the state, the government will stop you and me from buying a car that we might choose to buy even if there might be a willing seller. Now that the government practically owns and controlls the car companies, suddenly they support the legislation. Well, if they want to make cars that get 40 miles to the gallon, nobody is stopping them now. What they want is to shut out competition from other car makers who make bigger (and safer) cars because the fact is WE THE PEOPLE don’t like small cars. It’s once again an example of DC politicians trying to shut out competition and free choice in the market place.

Had Obama laid a proper foundation for powering up his favored plug-in hybrids it might have had some credibility. There is not going to be new nuclear power plants or other means to supply the electricity to make this economically viable. Japan auto makers are weary of the plug-ins. They have been down that road already. Wind and solar foundations and infastructures are not in place either.
This national emissions limit should alert all to how quickly you are losing your freedoms.

Yes comrade, a new Volkswagen that will hold two people and a half a suitcase. We guarantee we will make it smaller than the cars you see in European car chases down highways we call an alley in the US.
The government does not have the right to interfere but the communists (call them what they are and practice) in power will receive HUGE financial kickbacks from GE and GM as the “suppliers” of the technologies.
PS – Underwater volcanic activity FAR exceeds any increase to global warming than ALL human activity. Additionally, screw your head on straight, hybrids cost $13,000 more and not $1,300 they claim. Finally, thank god that when our cavemen children rebuild after the world collapse caused by this new communism, they will have oil and gas reserves to tap into to rebuild.

I hope we have a middle ground here. I would like better gas milage in my 3/4 ton trucks. I have a ranch to run, electric vehicles are not going to cook it. We have to think about basic needs. We spend lots of money to change TVs, but not on products we can use in our vehicle right now to get better gas. There is a big difference in making someone spend their money on a new TV and making they buy a new truck. I want the equivalent of a converter box

This Global Warming is just another way to Tax Americans. What are the other countries doing in the meantime? This is all crazy. Gas prices have risen 50 cents a gallon in just last couple weeks. This Administration and the nut-cases in Congress are selling out America and Americans. Spending and Taxing anything that moves or doesn’t move. Share the wealth and we are all down the drip…except those in DC…who ride around in limos and planes. Oklahoma and Texas seem to be the only states that aren’t going along with the program…hopefully, others will follow and the South will rise up again!

My favorite is the government backing the warranties on cars. Do they have a clue about lemon law. Each state has their own laws. Or is the government just going to pay for all the repairs and then buy back the vehicle. Give me a break, more tax dollars down the drain.

Is the new conservative C word communism? The US government has been cleaning up auto emissions since the 1970s and I don’t recall anyone being called communist until now.

Obama and all members of Congress who supported the bailout of the automotive industry should be the first ones to ride around in the new green cars. In order to put their (our) money where their mouths are, security should now take a back seat to green. After all, they are telling us that being green is more important than our freedom to choose the type of car we drive. May they be the first to set the example they are insisting the rest of us follow.
